Robert “Bob” W. Manning, 73, of Baldwinsville passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 31, 2020 at his Adirondack cabin in Mountain View, NY. He was born December 25, 1946, in Massena, NY, the son of Warren R. Manning and Eunice A. (Scott) Manning. He graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1965, then studied at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of Sigma Chi, received his bachelor’s degree in 1969, and his first master’s in 1971. Bob continued his education at the University of Michigan, obtaining his second master’s degree in 1976. He proudly served in the United States Navy for over 20 years, retiring as a Navy Captain. He was employed as a Naval Engineer for 24 years with Lockheed Martin in Syracuse. He resided in Baldwinsville for the past 38 years. Bob was a dedicated member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Onondaga County Library Board, Mountain View Lake Association and ELFUN.
Robert married Alice Carol Neagley on August 2, 1969 in Utica, NY. He will be remembered for his profound love for life and endless optimism. He was always there for his friends and was somehow always ready with his very best for those in need. His smart, mischievous sense of humor and full-hearted laugh will be missed by everyone who loved him. Bob’s beliefs were selflessly rooted in family, hard work, and the power of helping others.
Bob is survived by his wife, Alice, who he deeply loved and adored for 51 years. He is also survived by his 3 children and 2 sisters; his daughter Paige Manning and partner Scott Klemm of Cambridge, MA; his son Matthew Manning and Jessica Alighieri and their son Forest Lucca of Syracuse, NY; his son Ted Manning and wife Andrea and their children Alexander, Benjamin, and Charlotte of Ojai, CA; his sister Colleen Richter of Vero Beach, FL; his sister Kathy Martin of Oahu, HI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 7:00 pm at the Maurer Funeral Home Moyers Corners, 3541 State Rt 31 Baldwinsville. There will not be calling hours.
