The Winter edition of The Magazine of Sigma Chi featured Bob Jones ’73 and the announcement of his accumulation of the Condensed History of the Sigma Chi Fraternity: 1855 to 2018.  Bob condensed more than 20,000 pages of memorability and the 8 volumes of history from 1855 through 1980 written by Grand Historians into one volume.  Bob’s collection of Sigma Chi memorial is the largest outside of the official

Sigma Chi Museum in Evanston, Illinois.  Regarded as one of most knowledgeable Sigma Chi historians, he has never served as the official Grand Historian.  Bob is the Master Ritual Peer and trainer of Ritual Peers, an intensive training and certification for members on the Sigma Chi ritual and our history.

very much a young man in search of himself. “I feel like when I left those doors and graduated in May 1973, I had found my way. I really became a man in Sigma Chi. I stayed involved when I moved back to North Carolina. It’s been a labor of love ever since.”

“When I went to college and joined, I was a young man who was in search of my own way in life,” he says. “When I walked in the front door of [Delta Psi] at Rensselaer in 1969, I was very much a young man in search of himself. “I feel like when I left those doors and graduated in May 1973, I had found my way. I really became a man in Sigma Chi. I stayed involved when I moved back to North Carolina. It’s been a labor of love ever since.”

Bob shared that one of the surprises he discovered during his work is that our pledge manual suggests that the “Spirit of Sigma Chi” was attributed to the Founder’s era.  He was able to identify that it only dates from the 1950’s.
